Potential of Ocimum sanctum to Inhibit the Growth of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a Disease-causing micro-organism

Abstract: Aim and Objectives: Plants are a good source of secondary metabolites, which have huge potential to kill micro-organisms. The present study aimed evaluate the antimicrobial activity Ocimum sanctum ethanol extract against drug-resistant drug-sensitive strains Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa). Materials Methods: A total 119 P. aeruginosa, 92 multidrug-resistant (MDR) 27 pan sensitive were included in study, isolated from different human clinical samples. crude leaves was prepared with standard “cold extraction method”. susceptibility agar dilution plates made by mixing molten Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) media plant quantities get final concentration 0.2%, 0.1% 0.05%. These used for determining sensitive/ resistance nature all extract. Results: Among MDR MHA 0.05% extract, 59 33 resistant. same plate showed somewhat similar trends, 61 31 Whereas 0.2% 67 sensitive, 11 while 14 discrete colonies. at concentration, there complete growth inhibition 23, colonies observed 4, though, found as sensitive.
